Rape - The Tragic Face of Humanity
As the sun began to hide beneath the
horizon, no person is seen on the road. A lone woman is in a hurry to board a
bus, but that bus did not arrive. A
group of men are approaching her with an evil grin on their face. They slowly
approached her, waiting for a chance. The lady’s heart began to pound so loudly that
it was heard even to her. The tensed lady started to scream when they caught
her hand, but nobody is there to help her.
She resisted but could not overcome them. They gagged her and took her away.
Thus, a beautiful life went swirling into the verges of darkness. Does this scene remind you of something?
Rape.
The most atrocious and monstrous act done by a person by torturing the
other sex (female) to satisfy his personal lust and desire. According to Indian
Penal Code, Section 375, defined rape as, “Sexual intercourse with a woman
against her will, without her consent, by coercion, misrepresentation or fraud
or at a time when she has been intoxicated or duped, or is of unsound mental
health and in any case if she is under 16 years of age.”
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The day a woman can walk freely on the roads, that day
we can say that India achieved independence.”
Very true. But do we see any woman walking on the roads alone? She
should (must) be escorted with someone (companion) for security reasons. No matter
how securing the place maybe, a woman is always sceptical about her returning
home safely. But how can we change this...
This may be the biggest query lingering in our minds.
Whatever may be the reason for rape, women
are still being raped and the government is unresponsive to it. The Capital of India, New Delhi has the
highest number of rape-reports in any Indian cities, according to 2012
statistics. According to National Crime Records Bureau of India, 24,923 rape cases were reported across India
in 2012, while the 5 year average over 2007-2011 was 22,000 rapes a year. Adjusted
for population growth over time, the annual rape rate in India has increased
from 1.9 to 2.0 per 100,000 people over 2008-2012 periods. Nearly 68,000 rape
cases were registered across the country during 2009-2011, but only 16,000
rapists were convicted and sentenced to prison. But if were to notice the
present day scenario, nearly ¼ of the newspaper is ample with the news of
sexual violence on women.
The
2012 Delhi gang rape has created widespread attention on rapes in India and the
most recent 2014 Badaun gang rape has caused some serious global issue. It is a
disgrace for us when the UN expressed concerned on female atrocities in India. Not
only these cases but a number of other rape cases has bewildered the society as
well as set a negative impression on the opposite gender. Other cases include –
Anjana Mishra rape case in 1999, Soumya rape and murder case in 2011, Geeta
Chopra rape and murder case in 1978, Aruna Shanbaug case in 1973 and so on......
A10-month-old raped by a neighbour in Delhi; an
18-month-old raped and abandoned on the streets in Calcutta; a 14-year-old
raped and murdered in a police station in Uttar Pradesh; a husband facilitating
his own wife's gang rape in Howrah; a 65-year-old grandmother raped in
Kharagpur. It is said that, a rape is reported for every 21 minutes in India.
Seeing this above information anybody will say, “What is going on and what is
wrong with this world?”
Even if anti-rape laws come into force, what is the use
if they are not properly & promptly implemented to punish the rapists? We
have the Nirbhaya act come into force after the infamous 2012 Delhi gang rape
occurred. The Indian Penal Code has various sections dedicated for protecting a
female and their equivalent punishment for any offence. As a matter of fact,
the law enforcing agencies (police & judiciary), should be much more
stringent in maintaining law and order in the state and thereby penalize the
convict as early as possible. The media also should succour in creating
awareness on these issues among the public.
To understand any problem, we
need to find the root cause for it. It may be time consuming, but we can surely
find the solution to it. The causes for sexual rape can be classified into
personal factors, societal factors, and psychological factors .Personal factors
include a person holding a grudge, an urge to experience a sexual pleasure,
traumatic experience, drug facilitated sexual assault. Societal factors include
poverty, physical and social environment, laws and policies, social norms,
disasters and lack of infrastructure, global trends and economic factors. When
sanity of a person is questionable the person may be a part of this.
Causes & solution
1.
Brought up of kids by parents & family members is defective – Too much liberty is given to male child and
too many restrictions are imposed on female child in her life from the moment she steps into this world by the
parents and family members. This is like a slow poison. Thus parents and other
family members unintentionally create
superiority complex in male, inferiority complex in female. Therefore every
parent & family member has to realise this fact and mould their kids
perfectly, by giving equal importance to both the genders.

Influence of the Modern society - clubs, pubs, late night
parties, consumption of alcohol, drugs, obscene movies, advertising media, TV
shows and Internet highly influence the people. It is the parents, teachers and
friends who have to explain and make the children realise which is right and
which is wrong. The media also should aid in
creating awareness.
3. The Policy makers (Govt.), the law enforcing authorities (police&
judiciary)-Political interference, favouritism, laxity in implementing
law and order is the next important cause. There should be much more stringent
in forming polices, implementing law and order in the state and thereby
penalize the convict and
punishing the culprit as early as possible so that everybody will be afraid and
careful in doing such acts in future.
Conclusion:
Prevention of the problem
is in the hands of parents, family members, teachers, friends and media. It is their responsibility to mould the male children
and instill them with sincerity, obedience, diligence, harmonious behaviour towards
society regarding the equality of the female gender.
Control of the problem is in the hands of ruling
government, Administrative department, Police department, & the judiciary
department by imposing the rules promptly and stringently and punishing the convicts by sending them to jail or castration or ablation of the
emotional centres in the brain by radio ablation/surgical ablation
(by this, the emotional & anti-social activities can be erased )
or execution(hang to death).
Whatever may be the punishment it should be
taken as early as possible. Then only people will have the confidence on ruling
government, Administrative department, Police department, & also on the
judiciary.
Thus, we have to be more diligent towards societal issues and
to restore harmony and peace in society by warding away the ill in the society.
Rapes happened in past and are happening at present but should see that they should not happen in future.
So, by keeping the past in mind, let’s try to end these primitive animalistic crimes, by joining hands and raising our voices as one, for protecting the Mothers of the future humanity.

Life lessons for our betterment
Politeness can be defined as an art of pleasing others in company. Politeness is a great virtue. One should be polite in his thoughts, actions and words. There is a proverb which states that “To speak kindly does not hurt the tongue”. This proverb is very true. Kind words and actions differenciate us (Humans) from animals. You don’t need to do great things for being polite in life. Just a few words to say when you greet people or when you oblige to them or when to deny them. Don’t be rude to people because it is you at the end of the day whose going to suffer when they reciprocate the same to you.
Once Albert Einstein said,”A true genius admits he or she knows nothing”. This is a good quote describing the quality of humility. Being humble to yourself, family and people around you is very necessary. It is a quality which regards him/her as a better person who paves way for others and places himself at last. A wise and a learnt person will always be humble to himself and as well as to others. To be humble means to lower oneself and to be down to earth. Self – effacement always helps a person to achieve great heights as he or she is very from being arrogant and will be much willing to take any advice given without any pride in himself/herself.
Knowledge helps a person to know what is right and what is wrong, but that knowledge should not cover his morals and righteous behaviour. A person should never be arrogant as it deviates the person from his senses. In abstract, people should embed politeness and humility qualities into their cores as to become a morally upright person in the society.
Finally to conclude – The real joy or happiness can be felt only when one can understand the others and move acording to them, which not only makes them happy but also us.
